About the African Penguin
The only penguin breeding in Africa, nesting in burrows dug into guano. Braying calls earned the nickname jackass penguin. Distinctive pink eye patches help cool blood in the heat. Colony counts fell by over 60 percent in three generations as fish stocks shifted south.
