About the Tawny Owl
The classic hooting owl of European woodlands, said to have inspired the owl of Winnie the Pooh. The nighttime twit-twoo call is a duet, the female giving sharp notes and the male answering with long hoots. Detects rustling mice in total darkness. Fiercely defends nests, occasionally striking intruders on the head.
