Piping Plover

About the Piping Plover

A pale sand-colored plover that vanishes against open beach. Nests are shallow scrapes lined with shell fragments. Chicks are cotton-ball sized and flightless for weeks. Beach closures and nest exclosures protect the few thousand remaining pairs.
