About the Clark Nutcracker
Stores up to 30,000 pine seeds in autumn and recovers most months later under snow, a memory rivaling any animal tested. A pouch under the tongue carries nearly 100 seeds at a time. Whitebark pine forests depend on forgotten caches. Named for explorer William Clark.
