Endangered Birds: Conservation Success Stories and Ongoing Challenges

The California Condor dropped to 27 birds in 1987 — now over 500 through captive breeding. Whooping Cranes from 21 to over 800. Bald Eagles from 417 pairs to 300,000+.

But 1,400 species remain threatened. Biggest threats: habitat loss (agriculture and development), invasive species (cats kill 2.4 billion birds annually in the US alone), window collisions (1 billion per year in the US), climate change shifting ranges. You can help: keep cats indoors, add window decals, support habitat conservation..
